Half Day Tour In Ancient Olympia
Our meeting place will be the first exit from Katakolon Port. Upon your arrival at the port, I will be there to pick you up with our vehicle and provide you with a tour which will last 4-5 hours max.
Punctuality is our moto so there is no need to worry about delays on your arrival. Due to the fact that there are every day arrivals of cruise ships, I will be holding a board with your name written on it, so you will easily recognize me.
The distance from Katakolon port to Ancient Olympia is about 35 km, a 30 minutes’ drive.
On the route to Olympia you will enjoy the view of villages built on the hills surrounded by a beautiful landscape of Olive trees, and vineyards. Reaching to Olympia with us you will avoid crowded lines on the waiting areas. I will assist you to buy the tickets for the archaeological site and museums.
Discover the birthplace of the Olympic Games by first visiting the archeological site. You will admire the stunning view of the most famous monuments such as the ancient stadium, that hosted 40.000 spectators sited, the temple of Zeus and Hera’s and many more. Afterwards you will visit the archaeological museum, where you will see the metopes from the temple of Zeus, the magnificent statue of Hermes of Praxiteles, the statue of Nike of Paionios and the helmet of Miltiades, a famous general from the Persian wars.
You can also visit the Museum of the History of the games where you can learn more about how the Olympic games begun and the sports they were included. Next stop we will visit to Klio’s Honey Farm near Olympia. You will learn a lot about the production of honey and have the chance to try it as well.
For the last stop I will recommend you Agios Andreas beach. A great place for the Summer with lovely view of the bay of the Ionian Sea where you can enjoy a drink and swim. Our second suggestion will be to visit the Monastery of Panagia Kremasti. The monastery is located, between the villages Lanthi and Labeti on steep rock with an amazing view of the mountain Erymanthos and the forest of Foloi.
